Cover of Freedom City designed by Jason Anscomb and illustrated by David Foldvari
I did a reading of Freedom City at Quimby's Bookstore in Chicago on June 22, 2018. Turnout was light, but I had a blast anyway.
I was an exhibitor at the Gaithersburg Book Festival on May 19, 2018. Although the weather was dreary in the morning, the skies eventually cleared. Turnout picked up by the early afternoon. I sold a ton of copies of Freedom City. I made some new friends. What more could I ask for?
Altogether, it was a fantastic event!
I was a guest on WOWD-LP FM Takoma Radio's "Walking on the Moon." The host, psychologist Danny Griffin, interviewed me about Freedom City and asked some probing questions about my family and growing up in New Orleans around Confederate monuments.
You can listen to WOWD-LP here or at 94.3 FM in the People's Republic of Takoma Park.
My Brooklyn launch on February 10, 2018, was a resounding success! The event was at Little King in Williamsburg. Truly, I was blown away by the support and enthusiasm for Freedom City. The venue was packed. I almost sold out of books. Two adorable French exchange students bought copies and said they were going to use them to practice their English. A more awesome endorsement I can't imagine.
Thank you, New York!
The inaugural launch of Freedom City was on January 19, 2018, at Slash Run in Petworth. The turnout and excitement for this book was amazing. If you're in D.C. and you missed it, don't worry! Other readings are in the works for the spring and summer.
